Well this wraps up my first week here at the YWCA. This morning I arrived at work with a few more things to wrap up that I've been working on all week. Peggy, Chelsea and SonJa went to a real estate meeting, as I said in my last post, and that lasted until after lunch. Good news is that things look promising for this location. The more I hear about La Friperie, the more excited I get.
This morning, I successfully finished archiving the lists of previous donors for the silent auction/event that is held by the YWCA to help raise funds that will benefit the efforts of this organization.
After lunch, I spent the afternoon combining and organizing all the information into one giant list that only records the contact information of each donor so I can have one master list to look at whenever I begin soliciting for donations for the online auction. After I finished that, I began looking at the old letters that were sent out to solicit donations and I extracted relevant information that could be used again in order to try to create a new template which can be used this year.
Today was Chelsea's last day, which was really sad. I enjoyed having someone to work with all day.
Until next week!

La Friperie
This morning Peggy, Chelsea and SonJa went to a real estate meeting for La Friperie. If the committee approves the location then we can sign the lease on Monday and begin setting up shop. Hopefully if all this works out we can have the store open by September 1. If we secure this space, we will have more square footage than originally expected so we will be taking donations of gently worn women's business attire. If you have anything like this please let me know and you can drop it off to me or to the YWCA location off Goodwood Blvd. in Baton Rouge. Thanks guys!

First 3 days - summed up into one post
Monday July 26
Today was my first official day of work. I spent the first part of the morning filling out the rest of my paper work since Sonja was not here Thursday when I came for orientation.
After that I sat with Peggy for a while and learned about how to use basecamp. It isn’t set up for me yet, but Peggy said she would set up an account for me on Thursday so I could do my first official blog for La Friperie.
I spent almost the rest of the day watching Webinars and taking notes about online and silent auctions, as well as general auction tips and ideas. I believe this will be really helpful when I begin compiling the contact lists for the Y’s online auction.
After watching about 5 or so webinars, I began compiling the lists of who has previously donated to the YWCA’s past online auctions and events. Although Peggy is forwarding me a list they already have, I believe I should still begin compiling my own list because I can just search through my information and expunge the information I don’t need and transfer the information that we can actually use.

Tuesday July 27
Chelsea came back to work today from her vacation. It’s nice to have someone else around to work with. She spent most of the day showing me how to label and tag the clothing. We have just under 500 items for the store. It is really nice to see how generous people can be. Some of the items we went through need some mending, such as replacement or tightening of buttons and sewing hem lines. Also, some items just needed to be ironed or washed. At least these are only simple things. Anything that was stained, torn, or inappropriate for La Friperie was put in a goodwill pile. If we can’t use it, someone else might be able to.
Peggy informed me that they are still looking for a location for La Friperie. She said that they have 2 or 3 locations in mind, one being right next to Juban’s on Perkins. This would be a really good location for La Friperie because, although there are not many women’s clothing stores near this area, there is a Wal-Mart, a few restaurants and a coffee shop. It is a prime location. Peggy is going to meet with this lessee and a few others tomorrow during the day.
Tomorrow starts a new day. I think we are dropping off the items into storage, since we don’t have time today.

Wednesday July 28
Today I spent the first few minutes of the morning finishing tagging and sorting the items we have for donation. Then, I went with Peggy, Chelsea, and Sonja to the storage unit off College Dr. for La Friperie. We have almost 600 items in storage, plus a few more items that got dropped off after lunch and a few articles of clothing that needed mending or ironing. While loading items into Sonja's truck, we informed 2 ladies that work in this office building about La Friperie. They seemed enthused about the idea and even commented on how nice some of our garments are. Then we asked if they had any items that are gently used, which they are not using anymore. They said definitely and seemed eager to pass along their gently used clothes. Hopefully we will see more donations from those ladies and from others within the next few weeks.
I've spent almost the entire afternoon compiling lists of contacts to be used in calling to ask for donations for the Y's silent auction, which I will be working on for the remainder of my time here or until the auction is held. The tutorials I watched on Monday were actually coming in hand while looking at the items that were previously donated. I was able to see how items can be grouped together and how some items may not sell as well at a silent/online auction. The lists from 2007 and 2008 are flawed but possibly as perfect as they might get for now, at least until I start calling and writing letters and seeing who is in charge of each department now.
Can't wait for tomorrow!
